Blessed are the Peacemakers

"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God."
- Mathew 5:9

If you were to absorb everything on the topic of love conveyed across various mediums, you might come away with the idea that love is all about romance, passion and the yearnings of the heart. In contrast, the Bible would tell you that God is Love and that the traits that arise from having a relationship with Him are selflessness, humility, long suffering, gentleness, meekness and kindness. All the things that would see a relationship through periods when the heart feels it is no longer "in love" are the very things God suggests are the out workings of love itself. Indeed, it could argued that love has nothing to do with how we feel, but how we treat others, despite how we feel.

As we approach Remembrance Day, the following verses provides us one or two insights about love and about how those who serve love, whether or not they may have seen it as such.

"Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm, for love is strong as death, jealousy is fierce as the grave. Its flashes are flashes of fire, the very flame of the Lord. Many waters cannot quench love, neither can floods drown it. If a man offered for love all the wealth of his house, he would be utterly despised." - Song of Solomon 8:6-7

"Greater love hath no man than this, that someone down his life for his friends." - John 15:13

"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God." - Mathew 5:9
